HAWKE CUP

ASSOCIATIONS RE-GROUPED

POVERTY BAY *TO PLAY HAWKE’S BAY.

WAIAPU ON ITS OWN

According to advice received by the Poverty Bay Association from the New Zealand Cricket Council, associations eligible for competition in the Hawke Cup matches have been re-grouped for the current season. Waiapu has been separated from Poverty Bay and put in a group on her-own, while Poverty Bay has been grouped with Hawke’s Bay. Thinking that the groupings would be the same as last year, when Poverty Bay and Waiapu were together, these two associations had practically finalised arrangements for the Hawke Cup match to be played at Tokomnru Bay in . November. It is expected, however, and it is to be hoped so, that. this, game will be carried out as arranged. Poverty Bay owes Waiapu a visit and Waiapu wish to make the match this month a challenge game for the Kirk Cup. The Council’s letter notifies that the Hawke Cup groupings will be as follow-. —Group 1, Waikato; 2, Waiapu; 3, Poverty .Bay and Hawke’s Bay; 4, South Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa; 5, Rangitikei and Manawatu (holders); 6. Wanganui and Taranaki ; 7, West Coast and Buller; 8, Marlborough and Nelson; 9. South Canterbury and Ashburton; 10, North Otago and Southland. From this list, it is seen that Waiapu, Waikato, and P„ ~ itikei may challenge direct -for ggjrCup, without any qualifying Wvtch. Group winners are required be found by December-13 and .all challenges . for the Cup must be forwarded to the Council, addressed to the honorary secretary.
