The receipts were £1800:- - ", Jardine and Sutcliffe made, a fine partnership. The former wa9 particularly brilliant in onside play, turning Gregory’s and Nicholls’ fastest ' deliveries' to leg. Jardine.was a far more attractive opening batsman than Hobbs. He scored 140 in 200 minutes, including sixteen fours. This is his third century of the tour, Sutcliffe was very sound, off-driv-ing well. He gave a possible chance to Hooker at second slip off Nicholls the fieldsirfan just touching _ _ the ball. Otherwise he gave a brilliant display. Hammond and Hertdren were dashing. Each hit a sixer off Campbell. The former’s score included eleven fours. He is very strong on off-side play and possesses a magnificent shot through the covers. The bowling was ELelleway swung the ball well, taking two for 75. Hooker bf.oke sharply from the off occasionally. The wicket was a batsman’s paradise anu unless the weather changes a draw is likely. Scores are as follows: — ENGLAND (first innings.)
