ANNUAL MEETING. THREE HUNDRED MOKE SUB,SCRIBING AIEAIBERS AA'ANTED. Although there was only an attendance of 30 at the annual meeting of the Gisborne and East Coast ioung Alen's Christian Association, held on Tuesday evening, enthusiasm was the keynote oi the meeting, which augurs well for the forthcoming year. Air Ohas. Ala-tthews presided. In moving the adoption or the report the chairman said the Y.M.C.A. covered a wide scope of activities, every kind of social and spiritual life for men and boys being catered for. The Y.AI.C.A. was especially thankful for the untiring services of Messrs H. F. Forster and E. ,T. Halford who had given no end of time in the gymnasium in coaching the boys. Alessrs Forster“’and Halford together with others had assisted them, were wholly responsible for the success of the gymnasium and were helping to"keep the Y.AI.C.A. alive. Continuing the chairman said the Scouts and Cubs had not been neglected and he complimented the latter on winning the shield for most efficient all round work. The Business Alen’s Club was also doing good work while the spiritual side for the bovs was being well catered for. Another important phase, accomplished by the Y.AI.C.A.. said the chairman was the Child Welfare Department, lor which Air. Parsonson had been acting as officer, taking boys who had gone astray under his charge instead of sending them to an institution. As the local officer, Air. Parsonson had rendered valuable work. in seconding the report Air. G. B. Oman, said that as one interested in the YkAI.C.A. work but not a member of the Association, he would like to compliment the directors _ and the general secretary on their valuable work during the last 3 years. During the war the Y.AI.C.A. had given invaluable assistance and had - not only justified its existence but had glorified the association. The speaker stressed the need of the building' and hoped sufficient funds would be raised next year accomplish this. He endorsed the Chairman’s remarks concerning Messrs H.- F. Forster and Halford and said he admired the good work they had done. He would also like to compliment Alessrs AlcKenzie and Goldsmith who had assisted the instructors. Due 'principally to Mr Parsonson, the Government intended to appoint a welfare officer m Gisborne, as this work was occupying too much of the. secretary’s time. The report was unanimously aaoptGel Air S. C. Clare, chairman of the finance committee read the financial report, which showed a credit balance of £146 oil the year’s workings. In movnm the adoption of the repoit Air. Clare stressed, the need of hnVinv sufficient income to cover expenditure. The Y.AI.C.A. Would have shown a loss on the years working, as last year, had not been raised from a sheen drive- . Air S. H. Phillips seconded the motion, stating that the Y.AI.C.A. h' now been in existence 8 years and had done a fair amount of work hnt had not yet- reached then- goal. He appealed to the nub he of Gisborne to rallv'round the Y.M.C.A. lhe assOLiaticn needed 300 more subscribing members to put its finances on a strong footing. He concluded bv complimenting the treasurer. Mr. AI. Nicolson,. on his comprehensive reH. F. Forster said there was no mention of outstanding suhscripflons in the report Some of the members received the benefit or the classes and the gymnasium but did not pay their .subscriptions He suggested that parents shoiild be written to advising them that .r th-y. did not pay then- children s subscrip tions they would not be allowed to attend the classes. Air Parsonson said although there was £lO outstanding > subscriptions on the.report, over half of this had been received since- the' report nas compiled. . . The report'was adopted.
