INVITES MR, MASTERS ON TO STAGE.

The Prime Minister Mr. Coates was well received at n emu-ded meeting at the Town Hall. He 'V n n with criticism on leading political question?, in the past year, he said New Zealand, workers had lost. £lO,<IOO in wages ns a result of strikes, ■in Queensland, at the same time the workers had lost 360 days as a result of the strikes, the wages lost- being about £500,000. liv this respect New Zealand stood head and shoulders above any country the Opposition cared to quote. The last three years had been a jieriod of industrial pence such as had not been, enjoyed by the country for many years. In the pastyear the country had made a saving of £OO,OOO in the government of the country. This was during a time of depression showing that, the Government had a full grasp of the situation. it was a fine example for people generally. Mr. Coates proceeded to deal, with the speech of Air. Robert Masters, chairman of the United party at. Invercargill.. Mr. Masters was present in the hall and Mr. Coates invited him oil to the stage. Mr. Masters was greeted with loud and prolonged applause as he went up to the stage. ' V Mr. Coates dealtj at considerable length with the Railways Improvement Account, saying that the expenditure of money proposed wasmerely in the direction of ensuring the railways giving full service. Mr. Coates quoted the figures of the proportion of revenue in various years from Customs and income tax and said he had quoted Mr. Masters’ figures, but Mr. Masters claimed that his figures had not been quoted. Interjections were fairly, frequent ’hut the meeting was good-humored.
