BRIDGE ON FIRE.
DAMAGE TO MAKOTUKU VIADUCT. HAWKE’S BAY TRAFFIC DISLOCATED. (Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, Nov. 6. Railway traffic in Southern Hawke’s Bay was completely dislocated to-day owing to a portion of the approach to the Malcotuku railway viaduct, a few chains from the railway station, being burned early this morning. No train was able to pass over the bridge, necessitating the transhipment of passengers, who were conveyed between Ormondville and Mokotukn bv motor-car. Twenty-five sleepers of the approach were destroyed. The undefstructure also was badly damaged. Repair work is in progress, and the lino may be open for traffic to-morrow. It is thought that a spark from a train last evening caused the fire.
