“BITTER APPLES.”
“Bitter Apples,” the Monte Blue starring Vehicle for Master Pictures, which is screening at the matinee and to-night only at the Palace, is a whirling melodrama of vengeance, fights, fury and romance- Myrna Loy plays feminine lead, directed by Harry Hoyt, a film to be seen and remembered for its jthriJls, its throbs and its big laughing humanity. When the Wynoote Savings Bank smashes up, old man Blanco, a Sicilian, commits suicide. His son and daughter vow vengeance on the. last of the Wyncotes, who is quite, blameless. Stefani Blanco tries to kill Wyncotd with the knife, but Maria’s plans are subtler. The two follow him on board ship. Maria makes love to him, marries him, and at .once denounces him. Storm arises, the ship is wrecked and the two are adrift. Wyncotei saves his hateful wife from perils of a terrific fight with rum-runners who wish to take her captive, when a U-.SL destroyer rescues the two. Maria, having had enough of the bitter apples of hatred, tries some of the sweeter fruits' of life—to ,her own satisfaction, and that of the brawny young he-man who has fought so hard to win it.
