RECLAIMING GREECE.
HUGE CONTRACTS TO BRITISH FIRMS. TWO YEARS’ WORK AT COST OF £10, 000,000. 'British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 7. During his recent visijb to Paris and- London, M. Venizelos, Premier of Greece, held conversations with Mr. Charles Boot, head of the firm of public works contractors, and Sir Murdock MacDonald, head of the well-known firm of consulting engineers, and has entrusted them with the task of vast areas of. land to be reclaimed, and, where possible, irrigated, on the plains of Thessaly and in Epirus and other districts ol Greece for the benefit of agriculture. The works involved will ultimately cost at least £10,000,000. The surveys will take about two years, and will engage a large staff of engineers and surveyors. _ This programme of work is in continuation of the policy of the Greek Government to make all the land inside its present borders available for its people, whose numbers have been largely- reinforced by the return within rCOefit' years' of about 1,800,000 repatriated Greeks from Asia Minor.
