Gang war in Sydney, wmch has been quiescent for several months, was renewed last night, gunman stepped out of a taxi and shot down a pedestrian at the corner 01 Foveaux and Terry streets, Surrey Hills. . ■ ' The victim was William Dillon, aged 56, who was- sent to hospital with two bullet wounds. Doctorshope he will recover. The police are searching for a taxi. Apparently, apart from the occupants of the cab, only one eye-wit-ness was present. He was a business man named Carrington, who was walking along Foveaux Street. Ha was actually between the gunman and Dillon before ike shots were fired. A man with his head bandaged sprang from a car, walked towards Carrington, and, as the latter moved aside, the man said “Now I’t# got you.” A shot rang out- Dillon, who was behind Carrington, sagged to the ground. A second shot was fired as he fell. The gunman then re-entered the cab, which sped away into Elizabeth All passed in a few seconds. Carrington turned to aid the injured man, who was bleeding from the mouth and chest and his aesaiiant was gone. - " ’ ,
