OBITUARY.

MR A. B NEW2IAN

The death occurred on W ednesday of Mr Arthur Bruce Newman, an old resident of Poverty Bay, at the advanced age of seventy-six years. The late Mr Newman had been in failing health for some time. India was the birthplace of 'the late Mr Newman and he came to New Zealand as a boy with his parents. who took up land in Hawke’s Bay. About 1577 Mr Newman came to Poverty Bay and took up a sheep station near Ormond, where he was

Mrs Newman pre-dec-eas-ed him about thirty years ago. leaving a family of whom two sons and two daughters survive. They are Mesdames W. Hutchinson, of Alberta, Canada, and F. King, of Mauutuke, and Messrs L. Newman and lv. Newman, of Waimata and Waikohu respectively, to whom the deepest sympathy will be eytended. A brother and -sister of the late Mr Newman are resident in England, while Dr A. K. Newman. of Wellington, is another member of the family. The. late Mr Newman was keenly interested in racing and was a noted breeder of bloodstock. A numtter of horses bred on his property have performed with great distinction on" the turf, while his colors have been represented at the majority of. Poverty Bay meetings.
