RUNAWAY TRUCKS.
EXCITING INCIDENT ENDS WITHOUT MISHAP. (Press Astaowatlou.) AUCKLAND, April 17. Twenty railway trucks, with a passenger car at the rear, got out of control between Southdown and Penrose stations. The danger of a collision was noticed by the driver of a’passenger train from the Waikato, whe hacked his train slowly, with the result that there was nothing worse than a rather sudden jar as the trucks u'ere brought to a standstill. Later. The railway officials make light of the account of the runaway trucks. They state that the miods train c-one to a stop owing to the slippery rails, when the passenger train endeavored to assist its progress. Failing .this, the goods train w'as divided and the difficulty was overcome. There was some delay, but the officials scout tlie previous report of a startling occurrence, there never being any dangei of a collision.
