With a monoplane from his own factory here, Vance Breese made a safe landing a few miles beyond the city with seven passengers after the motor and propellor had torn loose from the frame and dropped from an altitude of 1200 feet. . American commercial airplanes flew 12,500,000 miles and carried 500,000 passengers,. and 2,500,000 pounds of freight, easily winning the commercial aviation leadership.
