HARBOR AFFAIRS

(To the Editor.) •Sir,—lt might perhaps be of interest to remind your numerous morning readers that on December 10, 1923, the Gisborne Harbor Board at its usual special meeting agreed l , by 8 votes to 7, to have contract as against day labor and in your next Issue, Tuesday, December 11, you had a notification after the leading article, tliat a, well-known firm o! London engineers had made an offer to build a suitable harbor for £1,000,000, the exact sum of the loan arranged for, and, if iny memory serves me, payment could be made in bonds for a certain period of years. As the meeting had finished, it was decided by the few members present when the wire was received, to refer the offer, to the finance committee which had been formed at the meeting. Of course, as everybody is aware after that another subsequent meeting was held and day labor won by 8 votes to 7 so that the proposed offer was shelved (more’s the pity).— I am, Yours etc,, CHARLES GOAVLAND Pehiri, April 16.
