COOK AND WAIKOHU. AGREEMENT REACHED.

Committees of the Cook and Waikohu Counties inet recently to consider, the alteration, of county bloundaries . > At; yesterday’s 1 'meeting of the Cook. County Council, a report on this committee meeting was received and was as follows: - . --

“There were present the chairman (Cr. Ohas. Matthews) and Crs. E. H. Baker and M. T. 81. Hall and the Waikohu County Chairman (Cr. T. B. Sppnce), and Crs. A. A. Fraser. G. H. Morice .arid Mr J, G: Appleton, county clerk.

“In consideration of the Tangihnu Road boundary, Mr Spence drew attention to the’fact that the Waikohu. County had formed one. mile of road within the Cook County for the benefit of a Waikohu ratepayer and to which the Cook County had not made any contribution. It was decided that as the work was caVricd out without consulting this Council, that the Cook Comity would not make any contribution.

“The chairman suggested that Mr Moriee’s property should be transferred to the Cook County and thus benefit by a practically continuous metallrid road to-Gisborne.

“Mr Morice stated that though he, personally, might bo in favor of transferring, the other settlors in that vicinity were not in accord with the proposal and he therefore stood by them.

“Mr Spence stated that the settlers had been interviewed upon the question and they were all against it and they considered the Tahunga route longer.

“The Chairman stated that, failing Mr Morice transferring to the Cook County, the best solution would be for the Waikohu County to pay to Cook County so much of Mr Morice’s rates each year, and thus enable them to carry out work each year upon Morice’s Road.

“Ml; Spence moved that the engineers of both Counties meet and inspect the Taumata Road and arrive at an estifnate of maintenance, and on Morice’s Road the cost of forming and annual maintenance from Morice’s to the ford and from Morice’s to Steele’s, and submit to their respective Councils :—(I) amount to be paid by Waikohu County Council to Cook County Council in respect of Morice’s Road, and (2)- amount to be paid by the Cook County Council to Waikohu County Council in respect of the Taumata Road—This was agreed to.

“The Chairman asked what was the position in regard to Messrs White and Humphreys’ properties at Totangi as at the present their access was by Cook County roads.

“It was decided that the Waikohu County Council consider these properties and communicate with* the owners on the question of transferring to Cbok County.”

The report was. adopted and it was decided that the agreement he accepted, subject to the Waikohu County forming the road leading to Morice’s place. -
