MELBOURNE, dan. 4. Reports from Wangaratta. Bec.-li-worth. and A\ odonga. state that Dio hush fires are practically under control The total damage is estimated at £150.000. The. most extensive fires were in Kverton and Ilansoiiville districts, where farmers and volunteers irom the towns fought the flames ior two lavs This fire reached within lour miles of Myrtle ford. which was saved hv a change ot wind. ‘ Another fire at Eldorado extended over an area of about 10 by Id miles, one station losing five stacks ot ha> and 1000 hags of grain, while liunddreds of sheep are missing, hut it is hoped that many are safe as the stock, was-driven away. In the Beech worth district several houses were burnt. The Murnnmgeo Post Office was saved after strenuous efforts. —U.P.A.
