RESULT OF STUDY OF CREEPING PARALYSIS. FAMOUS PHYSICIAN STRUCK DELIBERATELY RISKED DISEASE
LONDON. Jan. 2. Di- Henry Head, the famous physician, is now a victim of Parkinson’s disease from creeping paralysis, of which he. made a lile-long study. When the symptoms appeared iS months ago he retired to Dorehestei Hq cannot write, ''though doctors throughout the -world still consult him on abstruse problems of neurology. Twenty years ago Dr, Head deliberately risked contracting paralysis hv severing the nerves of the left arm near the elbow for the purpose of studying the pioblems of deep sensibility. He prefaced the experiment tfc’ a life of rigorous self-denial. The arm healed perfectly. The present complaint is apparently due to later overwork.
Dr. Head used to itell lii.s patients they must resign themselves to sleeplessness. He says: I am sorry now I did not quite appreciate how Hard life was for them.”—A. and N.Z. C.A.
