PLUNKET SHIELD
AUCKLAND DEFEAT OTAGO
SIX WICKETS MARGIN
AUCKLAND, .Tan. 3. . Auckland won their first Plunket Shield match of thfc.season to-day by defeating Otago by six wickets. The weather was again fine and the wicket in perfect condition. Ol;ngo took their ’’overnight' score to 315, Alloo being dismissed when only three short of the century. He had played a great innings. Elmes, a young left-ha ruler, also batted well ior 40. Bowiev and Mills gave Auckland a good start, and-put on oyer 150 in a fine opening partnership. This was followed by another, good partnership between Anthony and Cooper, whicn paved the wav for victory. As an exhibition of hatting, Mills’- innings this afternoon was the. best ol -the match, hut he was not lip against adversity to the i same extent as were McMtillan and Alloo yesterday. Otago put up a great fight for victory and, although delenthd. were by no means disgraced. OTAGO. —First Innings . . .. 197 —Second Jnnings.— A. Knight, b Player 0 V. G.
