FRENCH HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
ABANDONED BY CARPENTIER
(United Press Assn.—Copyright.) PARIS, Dec. 28. Georges Carpentier is abandoning the title of heavyweight champion of France as defence of the title interferes with his theatrical engagements.—A.N.Z.O.A.
NOTES AND NEWS
McAlister, the Australian who was Hooked by the Australian Association for matches with Johnny Leckie and Tommy Griffiths early in the New Year, was knocked out by Eddie Kolin in the fourth round in a contest in Sydney on Monday. This may mean the dropping of McAlister by the Wellington Association, as the defeat waif be regarded as calculated to. affect the box office receipts. Someone has dared to call the heavyweight champion of the world a “sissy.” When Tunney was going to see his mother one very warm afternoon he rode in an open car with his hat off. When passing two young girls on bicycles one glanced at the young man with the somewhat curly locks and called out, “Sissy!” The champion tells this story himself.
