SERIOUS MISHAP AT LUNA

PARK

AUCKLAND, Dec. 30,

Serious injuries were sustained by 'Michael Liddington, 22, a milkhand, of Puketitiri, Hawke’s Bay, through falling off the scenic railway at Luna Park last- eve'ning. Ho sustained a fractured jaw, a compound fracture of the right shoulder, a dislocated elbow and a severe scalp wound. — P.A.

BODY FOUND IN WATER

WELLINGTON, Dec. 30.

About 3.15 o’clock this morning residents at the beach end of Patrick street, Pctone, heard ones from the direction of the beach. The police were informed and a constable made a search, but could find nothing, though lie said he heard groans. M'hen daylight came 'Constables Scarry and MaoNamara went out in a dinghy, and after cruising round for sonic time, thevi found the body of a man about 21 years old, fully clothed floating in the water. There were no papers to assist in the identification. The deceased was of slim build, and was wearing a light grey suit, and had brown hair and eyes. His height was oft Bin. There were no marks of violence on the body.— P.A.

KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR LORRY. AGED MAURI’S DEATH.

, AUCKLAND, Dec. 30. Injuries sustained through being struck by a motor lorry at the corner of Customs Street and Little Queen Street this evening, caused the death of an aged: Maori, Wetere, of Te Kauwhata. The lorry, driven by Claude Francis Stevens, of Western Springs, Morningside, was turning from Customs Street into Little Queen Street. Deceased'was crossing the road When he was knocked down by the vehicle, which was promptly brought to a standstill. Deceased succumbed to his injuries at the Auckland Hospital less than an hour later. The only superficial injury was a compound fracture of the left leg, and it is assumed that the shock, accentuated by deceased’s age, caused Iris .death.—P.A.
