FARMER’S FAILURE.

“DUE TO MISFORTUNES.” ESTATE OF S. R. hillyAßD. Misfortunes in Loth farming and service ear venturers are ascribed by Sidney Robert Hillyard, farmer, ot Gisborne, who has filed a petition in bankruptcy, as the reasons for his failure. In his statement to the Deputy Official Assignee (Mr. C. Blackburn) he says:— “About se\en years ago .1 took up farming under the soldiers’ settlement scheme and lor a short time the prospects seemed* good. then prices fell and even labor was a drug on the market. This, together with rather more than a lair share of misfortune eventually compelled me to give up f arming. __ l took whatever employment I could get and, after a>- time, I started business with a service car and worked up a good connection, the hope of clearing my debits rose higher until vandalism to my car on two occasions ruined both my car and my business, eventually plunging me deeper into debt. Since then J have done what I. could until my creditors have pressed me, so that I am now compelled to file my petition.” The statement of finances shows that £451 is owing to unsecured creditors, and there are no assets. The debts to unsecured creditors are: A. S. Patterson and Co.. Wellington £l6; Oolebropk and Taylor, Tolaga, Bay, £4: Thos. Bailie, Waimata, £311; Dalgety and Co., Gisborne, £ls; John Hurrey, Matawhero, £4B; Fortune and Carrutilers, Rotorua, £4; H.S. £4G; and Alexander and Graham, £7.
