WAR REGULATIONS CHARGE AUCKLAND, April 0. In the Police Court to-day Walter Hodgson was charged with selling a document entitled!: The Path ot Power” which encouraged violence and lawlessness, contrary to tlie provisions of the War Regulations Continuance Act. After a lengthy hearing judgment was reserved. —1 .A. ALLEGED FALSE! PRETENCES CANVASSER. CHARGED WELLINGTON, April 6. Edward William King, a canvasser of Wellington, pleaded guilty before Mr Page, S.M., to-day, to four charges of false pretences m respect to cheques presented to an Auckland publican and dishonored. Counsel said restitution would be made if accused was granted probation. Accused was remanded for sentence until to-morrow. —P.A. AN ADOPTED CHILD ORDER FOR. MAINTENANCE WELLINGTON, April 6.
Rosa Filth proceeded against oorge William Wood, a butcher, in. the Supreme Court today seeking an order for £1 a u eek maintenance in respect to an adopted child. A decree absolute was made in September, since J J both parties have remarried. Mi Justice MacGregor said! the couit had given custody' of the child to petitioner. He was satisfied that the respondent had a legal responsibility although the other husband would be liable if the child became destitute. It had been submitted that petitioner and her husband were in such a good financial position that no order should lie made against the respondent, whom it was said was not in a position no par. Respondent Tas _ doing good business and could evidently atfoid to pav £1 a week. Petitioner’s husband was unable to work, and the two were not in a wealthy position. SEAMAN FOR SENTENCE
AUCKLAND, April 6. A sentence of three months’ gad was imposed on Ernest Hodge, alias Wilson, 32, who, unauthorised, received deposits and .failed to account for £G 15s to his employers, ai an advertising canvasser, on a commission basis. He had been previously convicted on two charges at Auckland. A steward on the Middlesex. Frank Herbert Uplon, 1/, was remanded for sentence until tomorrow on a charge of receiving a quantity oi clothing and two handbags, valued at £6 10s. The charges related to a cargo pillaging case m connection with which a number of men had beeen sent to prison.—P.A HAD NO LICENSE FISHING AT WAIKAREMOANA April 6. In the Wairoa Police Court to-day T. McNae was convicted without a fine for not taking out a special fishing license at Waikaremoana. The Tourist Department did not press for a penalty, as it Is not generally known that* the ordinary Dominion licenses are not available at the lake, where special ones are necessary. P.A.
