GISBORNE CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT

Activities of the Gisborne Tennis Club are interestingly reviewed in the annual report to lie presented to the members on Saturday evening. IV ith regard to finance, the report states that the income and expenditure account shows an excess of income over expenditure of £49 15s sd, which must he considered very satisfactory. The initial cabaret at the commencement of the .season was largely responsible for this surplus; without, this the . club would have come out without any surplus, though also without any loss. The active membership at the end of the season was 43 ladies* and 43 gentlemen. Several resignations are to hand, hut against these there are several applications for .member-, ship which will increase the present figures. The condition of the , courts was. satisfactory.;. During the-, season the club lost the services of the groundsman, D. Sheehan, and the work lias since been attended to by EL C. Calcott. The courts promise to be in good order for the coming season.

During the seaison twio handicap tournaments and one championship tournament were held, both proving very 'enjoyable and very successful. Two outside matches were played, one against a men’s team from the Coast, aaul the other a. combined match against a team selected from all the other clubs of the disr trict. In both matches , the club-was successful. It is hoped that now the Poverty Bay and East Cbast Lawn Tennis’ Association lias been formed more matches of this nature will be played. It is also hoped to send a team from the club to Napier to play the Napier olul) early in the season. The committee again wishes to express its appreciation to the ladies for regularly dispensing afternoon tea on Saturday afternoons.
