POLITICAL MATTERS
EARLY SESSION NOT EXPECTED. WILL MR. ROLLESTON BE MINISTER FOR EDUCATION? (Special to the “Times.’’) WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. So far as can be gauged at present, there .seems to be no likelihood that the first session of the new Parliament will begin much earlier than usual, even though the Imperial Conference meets in October. The Conference is, of course, delayed owing to the political uncertainty prevailing in Uanda. Even should tile N.Z. Prime •Minister have to leave before the business of the session can be completed, it is unlikely that the session will be shortened on that account. There seems to be some doubt as to whether the recent allocation of portfolios may not be altered before long. Should Sir-James Parr be appointed High Commissioner in London, a new Minister of Education will be necessary, and it seems very likely that this portfolio would then be handed over to the Hon. Mr. Rolleston. It is generally recognised that this would be a very suitable arrangement and in such a case the portfolio of Defence would, no doubt, be handed to some Minister.
