WAIMATA VALLEY SPORTS

SECOND ANNUAL MEETING.

The second annual meeting, of the AA T aimata Sports Club- was field on Saturday, when residents from all parts of the AVaimata and several car loads from Gisborne and the Flats assembled to witness the various events. The meeting was held on Mr. G. K. B. Barker’s grounds, pleasantly situated on the banks ot the AVaimata, and ha id out in the form of a natural arena with a high bank on which over 30 cars were parked, the occupants viewing the sports below. Keen interest was evinced by the spectators in the events, and entries were numerous and compared favor'ably with those received at the meetings held earlier in the year. The jumps were certainly the leature of the meeting, and the horses enterede were well up to the standard of anything seen this year, the winning horses, especially in the open jump, being the siibject of favorable comment by the judges. Though the club is only in its second year it certainly -justified its existence, and the meeting proved a most popular one. The secretarial duties were in the capable hands of Mr. T. AY. G. Tombleson, assisted by Mr. Barber. Messrs A. Selby and H. Drummond were the judges. The dance organised by the club, held in tne AVaimata Hall in the evening, also proved a big success, and was patronised by a largo attendance.
