LIVING TORCHES
WOMEN ABLAZE IN MUNITION WORKS SEQUEL TO A SHORT CIRCUIT. EXPLOSION KILLS OR MAIMS 40 WORKERS WARSAW, Jan. 22. Forty persons were killed, or seriously injured, by an explosion in a munition works, caused by the short circuit of an electric wire. Sparks fell in the explosives room where men and women were employed, and the dresses of thirty women were set on fire. They rushed about terror-strick-en, resembling living torches, many jumping from the windows and breaking tjieir arms and legs.
Panic followed in the rest of the building.—Times.
