DAVIS CUP
WHY AUSTRALIANS LOST
DOUBLES
ANDERSON BLAMED FOR NOT
PLAYING
(Australian and N Z. Cab'e Assn.) NEW YORK, Sept. 6 Adverse criticism has been levelled against Anderson lor tue substitution of Hav.'kes for himself in the doubles. The reason for this step was the poor show in <r of the French in the National Doubles and the splendid team work of Hawke’s a.rd Patterson. Although they v.<ere defeated in the. final, the result of Saturday’s play snoved that the criticisms, were justified. Hawkes was pot equal to the strain.- Had Anderson played the match would have been faster with probably a dnrorent result. A'ndorson. in a practice match witn Alonzo on, Saturday, displayed splendid form.
