ARBITRATION ARRANGEMENTS

At the meeting of the Poverty Bay Power Board on Saturday, a letter was rece.vod from Messrs Tempim and Toogood, expressing anxiety to know the position of arrangements for arbitration for the sale and purchase of the borough eiectric light and power piant. it was po.nted out that a conlerence of Power Beard engineers would occupy their attention during the next week. A telegram was also received asking the position in regard to the Board’s arrangement. /

The Borough Council wrote reexplaining their attitude as io lows : •‘By directions of the Gisborne Borough Council I have the honor of acknowledge receipt of your communication of July ’l4 in regard to the sale of the borough e.ectnc light and power plant undertaking to your Board, and asking that an agreement be prepared forthwith, and urging the completion of the appointment or the Council’s arbitrator, and in reply have to state that the matter has been referred to the electrical committee for their attention.” Mr. Todd stated that when the electrical committee came to a decision a special meeting of the Borough Council would he held. The chairman said that the de'av was unfortunate because it meant delay in securing power for the ds-tric-t in that the Government contract could not be signed until the loan had been carried, and the lean proposals could not be submitted until the price of the borough plant had been fixed and decided upon by both bodies.

Mr. Todd explained that at the Council meet/rig it had been stated that £lse delay did not effect the Power Board, but he pointed out how it held up the loan proposals. The letter was received.
