The May Day demonstrations passed without serious trouble owing to the precautions taken by the police, who arrested about one 'hundred supposed agitators at a mass meeting of workers, including women and Koreans, which passed a resolution urging inter alia tho repealing of the Peace Preservation Act-and tho organising of a National Labor Federation. Ten thousand-marched in a procession to Hyde Parle to participate in the international carnival. Tho lefnonstration was principally remarkable for tho number of children carrying a Red Flag and the foreign element, especially Jewish, which was unusually conspicuous while a small body of Asiamies marched under a banner demanding a free India. At the conclusion of the demonstration the procession marched to tho Bulgarian legation, where, amid the singing of the Red Flag, a protest was presented against tlie alleged persecution of Bulgarian workers. Tho crowd outside was regaled with speeches by the leaders, including one from Ben Tillett, M.P. A slight melee resulted in the police clearing the pavement amid boobing. A Bulgarian official, replying to the protest, declared that the stories of oppression were maliciously spread and were unworthy of credence.
