Mi Hie Id, C. G Hoidsworth, R. D. By mock, T Quirk, 'IV Corson, It. M. Birrcll and A. H. Wallis. The request of the Borough Council for re-appointmer.t of representation on the Harbor Board, consequent on the merging of portions of Haiti and Mangapapa into the Borough, was the subject of a letter irom the Ma nne Department. The Department stated that it might be pointed out that the present legislation provided for the election of four members of the ■Gisborne. Borough and Mangapapa Town district; therefore, the reference to the inclusion in the Borough of part of the Mangapapa district was beside the point. Further merging of portion of the Cook County was counter-balanced by taking away portion of the town district, which .formerly combined with the Borough in the election of four members, tin- j dor the circumstances there appeared j to be no reason 1 why increased representation should be granted, and the Minister of Marine, after careful consideration, could not give effect to the request. —The letter was received. The Minister of Public Works wrote seating that he liad referred, the Board’s request for remission of Cits- , turns duty on the portion of the Ko-, ilia’s gear, shipped to Gisborne from Australia by separate steamer, to the Minister of Customs, who regretted that there was no legislation_by which remission of the charges could he granted.—On the. motion of the chairman, the Board decided to request j Mr. W. D. Lysirar, M.P., to introduce a Bill in the 'Washing-Up Bill to give the Board relief from the Customs duty charged. . A letter was received from rsolan and p.kcct claiming, on behalf of E. M. Harper, £6431 13s. for land taken for harbor works. —The claim was referred to the Board’s solicitors. The Marine Department wrote as follows: "With reference to the correspondence I understand has recently taken place between the Gisborne Borough Council and your Board, on the subject of certain piles m the Turanganui River, the matter has been gone into by the Resident Engineer and the Marine Engineoi, vho consider that no actual nuisance is at present being created. They do not think there is any necessity to call on the Board to remove the piles, but that if there are any signs of scour (which is feared bv your Board) developing or any nuisance due to the piles becoming apparent, then He Borough Council should be called upon to take immediate steps to remove them. —The letter was received. Accounts amounting to were passed for payment. . '•* The Engineer reported as loJows: —Repairs to Western Groyne: Artel examination of the groyne by diver, it was found that a few bad places "and a number of minor places needed repairs.
