WIRELESS TELEPHONY.

SUCCESSFUL TEST BETWEEN ENGLAND AND AUSTRALIA MARCONI STATES SOMETHING MORE THAN BEAM USED.

LONDON, June 3. Signor Marconi, interviewed by the Daily' Telegraph, confirmed a successful experiment in telephony between England and Australia. He said: “My system was not employed in its entirety, because arrangements had not been completed. The system lias been used without a beam but nevertheless without a beam it has been possible to do what never has been done before. A speech was transmitted quite -clearly, and I am convinced it would be quite easy to conduct such conversations, it will be practical by the beam system from anywhere to anywhere. There will be no distance in future over which we cannot telephone.” The interviewer asked: Would it be correct to say your new system was used without a beam.

Signor Marconi: Yes, experimentally. The new system comprises something more than a beam. That something we won’t speak about at present. An earlier successful experiment between Ireland and Melbourne was telegraphy, not telephony.”—A.‘and N.Z.C.A.
