A London cable announces the death of W. H. Wendon, a director of D. W. Murray and Co. Miss Trewavas, B.Sc. (London), has joined the staff of St. Winifred’s Diocesan School. Sir Jamies Wilson, who was on Wednesday re-elected chairman of the Manawatu County. Council,, has held that office since 1898. Fie was elected a member of the council two years previously. Mr. Sydney Francis Hoben, who has been” giving a series of opera recitals in the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barker, Mr. Harry Parker, and Mrs. A. F. Kennedy, and has been very busy as a teacher, will leave this evening by the Manaia for Napier, where he will spend a day or two before going on to Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, at which cities he will make appearances. The National Bank of New Zealand flew their flag at half-mast yesterday as a token of respect for Mr. D. W. Dutbie, who up till recently was the New* Zealand general manager of the Bank, and who died yesterday at Wellington. A short time ago Mr. Dutbie was forced to resign his position as general manager on account or his health, and since then he has been Advisory Director for the IJunK in New Zealand. The question of the- retirement of Mr. Nesbitt, Town Clerk, of Sydney, which has for a considerable time been a subject prominently before the City Council.,was solved by Mr. Nesbitt agreeing to voluntarily resign from the end of the. present month on thi/e months’ notice. Under the terms of the settlement, [Mr. Nesbitt will, including an honorarium representing one year’s salary, receive altogether between £6OOO and £7OOO. Mr. W. G. Owing to ill-health, [Monsignor Mahoney, of Onehunga, has been obliged to resign office as one of the two vicars-general of the Auckland Roman Catholic diocese. Monsignor Cahill, of Parnell, who is at present visiting Europe has been appointed Monsignor Mahoney’s successor by Bishop Cleary. Until Monsignor Cahill’s return, the Rev. V . J. Murphy of the Good Shepherd Parish Dominion Road will be an acting-vicar-general. The bishop has also appointed Father-Holbrook as archdeacon, Father Murphy as Dean of Waitemata, and Father Brennan as Dean of Waikato. i The Rev. Hr William Baxter Gow. one cf the best-known members of the medical profession in Wellington, died at his residence, IS7 Tinakcri road. _ Born at Criess. Perthshire, Scotland, the late Dr Gow graduated as M.B. at j Edinburgh, and later M.D., gaining ; honours forh is thesis. Coming out to : New Zealand, he was appointed medical sperintendent of the old Mount View Hospital, previously • having gained considerable experience ! in the treatment of mental diseases • at Prestwick asylum, Lancashire.
