AERIAL DEFENCE.
UNITED STATES’ HEAVY VOTE. "WASHINGTON, July 24. Mr. Weeks will ask Congress for an appropriation of 25,000,000 dollars for the armv air service for 1924, 15,000,000 whereof would he spent in new equipment and the remainder m general operating expenses. The appropriation would bo twice the amount available for the. army air service for 1920, and it is expected Mr. Weeks will inform Congress that in crcftawd appropriations will bo (necessary annually hereafter to adequately assvuro the country’s defence aerially. The United States now has only 450 planes available, the majority of which are old war stock of the army. Air Weeks hopes to increase- the number to 2500, available in the event of an outbreak of hostilities.—A. and N.Z.G.A. ' r '
