In the second round Roberts (Auckland), the present champion, defeated Howison (Dunedin) by 750 to 401. Roberts ■soon established a good lead and never appeared to he extended. Smith (Christchurch) heat Siedeberg (Dunedin) to-night by 750 to 599'after a somewhat slow game. Smith played excellently, at times giving a good allround exhibition, but Siedeberg gave ail indifferent showing throughout the greater part of the game. The semi-final will be played to-mor-row, when Roberts will play Stewart, and Smith will meet Lindsay.—P.A.
HOCKEY. CIVIC FAREWELL TO TOURING TEAM. WELLINGTON, July 26. A civic farewell was tendered the hockey team to tour New South Wales and other States. The Mayor said lie was sure the team was thoroughly representative of the Dominion. Other speakers said the team would he hospitably treated for the Australians were noted for the splendid manner they treated the visitors. Sixteen will leave to-morrow including Messrs. Manning (Wellington), Nordon (Auckland) two selectors.— I*. A. BGXINC. SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONS. ASHBURTON, July 20. The South Island boxing championships concluded to-night. Results were as ol lows: — Flyweight.—Semi-final: J. Lecltie (Dunedin) heat A. Ennis (Timarn). Final: Leckie heat N. Keily (Greymoutb). This, bout caused great excitement and. was the best contested bout of the tournament. Bantamweight;.—Final: T. Griffiths (Dunedin) heat: W. Weston (Timarn). Featherweight.—Semi-final: It. Fulcher (Dunedin) beat N. Moulin (Ashburton). Final: Fulcher heat T. Armstrong (Christchurch). Lightweight.—Final: TL Pascoe (Greymouth) heat T. Harris (Dunedin). Welterweight.—Semi-final: L. McDonald (Dunedin) heat A. Thompson (Christchurch). Final: McDonald heat J. Nelson (Greymoutb). Middleweight.—Final: L. , O’Neill (Greymoutb) heat W. A. McPhail (Ashburton). Light-heavy weight.—Final: J. Swinerd (Oamaru) won by default, his opponent failing' to medically pass. Heavyweight.—Final: A. A. McCormick (Ashburton) beat J. G. Leckie (Invercargill).
