every- success. The annual report of the Council showed that the membership of tlie society was increasing. The total now stood at 30-5,. including n 7 members' and 112 associates. The report referred to the opposition of the New Zealand Institute of .Surveyors which “was a very important factor in influencing the Cabinet to take up the Registration of Engineers’ 'Bill as a Government measure.” The Council would continue to endevour to secure the passing of legislation, the principles of which had already been approved by the society. The president said that the aims of engineers should he the aims of surveyors, but the latter had set themselves up as enemies of civil engineers. Surveyors made extraordinary demands, whereas the proposals "of the engineers were most .moderate and unselfish.

Mr Sladden said that the delegates representing the surveyors did not represent the views of the surveyors generally. It would be found that an arrangement with the surveyors would be possible in the near future. The report was adopted.
