NOTES. ’ The Arahura arrived at Gisborne yesterday afternoon from Tokomaru Bay and Auckland and was tendered for inward passengers upon anchoring. The second launch went out at 7.30 o'clock last night, and the vessel later proceeded to Napier. She leaves that port again to-night for Gisborne and is* to be tendered with the launch for inward passengers at 5 a.m. to-morrow, and at 8 a.m. for outward passengers. She then sails for Auckland direct. Tim Wingatui is due at Gisborne tomorrow from Napier to discharge - a quantity of Southern produce, and upon completion goes on to Auckland. The Gallic is due to sail from Brisbane for Gisborne direct on January 5, and should arrive here on January 10. At this port she is to lift 45,000 freight carcases of frozen meat and 2000 bales of wool. The Putiki sailed at 3 a.m. yesterday for Toioga Bay to pick up a cargo of wool. She returns to Gisborne today to discharge, and leaves later for the Coast and Wellington. The Fair burn arrived at Tokomaru Bay at 6 a.m. yesterday from Gisborne, and, after discharging her coal cargo was to sail again last night for this port.

The Elsie Mary is still engaged in loading general cargo for Auckland.

The schooner War Lord, loaded with timber and general cargo, sailed from Gisborne at 4.30 a.m. yesterday for Auckland.

The C. and D. liner Port Victor, which loaded recently at Toko-naru Bay, is to be dispatched from Wellington to-day for London, via Cape Horn and Monte Video.

The number of lives lost during the past year through marine mishaps on or near the coasts of the Dominion was 31, as compared with 19 in the imevicus year. Of these, 17 were lost in the auxiliary schooner Jubilee, and four in the auxiliary schooner Kahu (both vessels were supposed to have foundered), six in the capsizing of the auxiliary schooner Omaka, one in the boiler explosion on the s.s. Ciutha, and one in the stranding of the Te Teko. The second officer of the s.s. Rimu was carried overboard by a- heavy sea and drowned, ancl a passenger on the s.s. Monowai disappeared, and is presumed to have been lost overboard.
