WANTS MASTERY OVER GERMAN OCpAN TRADE. CONTROLLING SHARES IN BIG COMPANIES. ,
(Received Oct. 7, 5.5 p.mj BERLIN, Oct. 6. Herr Hugo Stinnes is making a big effort to secure the mastery of German shipping. Since he failed to conclude an arrangement with the North German Lloyd and failed to secure) election to the board, of directors of the Hainburg-Amerika line, he has been buying up blocks of shares in both companies, with the result that he is now dominant in the North German Lloyd shares, which have risen from 238 to 405 in the month, and Hamburg-Amerikas have risen froni 255 to 370. Stinnes is also buying ships freely at home and abroad. He lias added 44j6Q0 tons to bis own fleet since February. 3v the end of the year Germany will have afloat 20 per cent, of her prewar tonnage. The building capacity of the German yards is now 80 per cent of pre-war production.—A. and N.Z. CA.
