SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL AT HALCOMBE. FEILDING, July 27. A Fallen Soldiers’ memorial was unveiled at Halcombe . to-day by Major McLean, M.C. The Hon. Mr Guthrie was also present and spoke on the patriotism of the settlers who voluntarily subscribed the cost of the memorial.—P.A.
PROPOSED TRAIN “CUT.” WELLINGTON, July 27. There have been various statements ,regarding the changes in the railway time table in order to obtain more economical working by tlie elimination of unprofitable trains. Such a revision is now being prepared hut nothing definite has yet been settled. Before any new time table is brought into' operation it will require to be reviewed by Cabinet.
MENACE TO NAVIGATION,
WELLINGTON, July 27. A dead whale, three miles east of Jackson Heads, was reported to-day by the master of the Mapourika. The whale is considered a menace to na-vigation.—-P.A.
PAKEHA’S BATCH OF IMMIGRANTS.
WELLINGTON, July 27. With 818 immigrants on board, the liner Pakeha is due at "Wellington next Sunday morning from London 1 . The Pakeha is calling at Wellington to land passengers only and, after the disembarkation of the new arrivals will proceed to Auckland.— P.A. -
