It is understood that Mr. Holmes (chief engineer of the Public Works Department) retires at the endi of the month, and will be succeeded by Mr F. W. Furkett, now assistant chief engineer. ' ,

The commodious and up-to-date garage being built for Messrs Bignell and Holmes in Grey Street, is now nearing completion, and will be occupied by the firm in about a week's time.
