FARMERS' UNION.
MATA WAT BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Matawai branch of the New Zealand Farmers'' Union was held in-the Matawai. Hall on Saturday last. Mr W. Tucker was unanimously reelected president. Mr W. J. Scholium was elected secretary, in place of Mr 11. E. Burgess, who has left the district, and Mr O. V. Russell was elected delegate in place of Air Henson, who is leaving shortly to take up his residence in Aucklaihl.
A discussion took place in connection with the forest reserve behind Matawai and Motuhora. which was lately reported by the Minister of Lands to be unsuitable for settlement'. Finally it was decided to write the Minister of Lands, pointing out the erroneous nature of the report, and the fact that settlers bounding the block on both sides were doing well on similar country, and were satisfied the reserve was quite fit for settlement.
It was decided also to again request the Minister to open for settlement Block V.. Motu S.D., G.R., which is known locally to be good country.
