In connection with the hauling down of the French flag, a leading police official called on the French Embassy and expressed regret. Subsequently a company of Reichswelir marched past the Embassy, where leading French officers and a member of ilie Embassy stood on the balcony, and the flag was rehoisted. The Reichswehr presented arms and marched off singing ‘‘Deutchlaiul Über Alles.’ The crowd vigorously cheered the Reichswehr, who only participated in the ceremony after influential persuasion, but refused to don parade uniforms. —Reuter. The ceremonial apology for hauling down the tricolor at the French Embassy was carried out in an insulting manner, aggravating the original offence. : A slovenly dressed company of Reichswehr marched to the Embassy, saluted the hoisting of the flag, amid hoots ifrom a large crowd; then the company departed smartly, singing “Deutschland Über Alles.” amid the crowd's cheers.—A. and N.Z. The French Charge d’Afiaires protested to tlie German Government against, the Reichswehr commander permitting the singing of “Deutschland Über Alles” after saluting the re-hoisted French flag. The protest points out that the incident evoked a disagreeable demon stration from the crowd—A. and N.Z.
