MEMBERSHIP TO BE INCREASED
PREPARATIONS FOR THE FESTIVAL.
A well-attended meeting*of the Gisborne Competitions Soc’etv was held on Friday last thdre being present: Messrs l rf. Cole. j. H. Bull. I. Mirfield, A. T. Webb, C. V r . Havre, J. Chjisp F. J. Jiowlev, P. Heckle v, A. T. Hookey, W„ H. Irvine, M. G. C. Pasco, and the secretary (Mr F. R... Ball). Apologies were received from M essrs E. H. Mann. J. McKee, W. J. Sinclair, and Rev. Aitk.cn. Mr. R. Cole was voted to the chair. • The secretary reported that owing to the difficulty in securing test musiic, the music committee recommended that the flute, cornet and ’cello be made, own selection items. Tim recommendation was carried. On tho niot'on of Mr Havre, seconded by Mr Hockley, exercises for . the physical drill competitions were left in tho hands of Messrs li. Cole and F. J. Rowley. It was unanimously decided that Mr J. A. Nicol be -asked to net as stage manager again this year. The- matter of increasing the membership of the Society was discussed, and -an effort is being made to bring the. mcraber.d':n up to 200. The secretary reported that entries were coming in s’owIv, but there- wa« good inquiry, and it was expected that entries would ho as good as previous years'.
