ANNUAL ELECTIONS.

Tlie annual meetings of liouscholdeis in connection with the school committee elections were held last evenIII 0 ". GISBORNE SCHOOL.

At the Gisborne Main School mcetincr, the Rev. James Aitken presided. The annual report, wh.ch has been already published, was adopted. The'following nominations were received for the school committee lor the ensuing year:— Alesdames Cliurci and Hooper, and Messrs. A. Sawjei, A McMillan, W. McAlurray, P JWainwright, G. Wildish, J. McCullough, and Rev. Jamc s . Aitken. As the nominations did not.exceed the vacancies, no election was necessary, and, the above were appointed to "the committee. , , jT The chairman reterred to tlueo members, Mrs AValkcr. Mr Ban, an the Rev. J. Carlisle, who had gnen good service for several years. A r otes of thanks were passed to these retiring members. Appreciative reference to the ..eivices of Mr Rowley and his staff \as made bv the chairman, who moved a hearty vote of thanks, which vas tairiod by acclamation. Mr Rowley returned thanks on behalf of the staff. , Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring committee and the Tress. At the subsequent meeting or the committee, the following officers were elected: —Chairman, Mr C<_. Wildish, treasurer. Rev. James Aitken j secretary Mr P. J. AVain wright; finance committee. Rev. Janies Arbkon, Messrs G Wildish, Sawyer, AA . AlcAiullan. and Mr.s AloAlullan.

GISBORNE EAST. At the meeting at Gisborne East, Mr G. E. Ashton presided The annual report was adopted. The question of the school drainage was discussed, and Lie oliowmg refsolution was passed:---"lbat- tin. meeting of householders desires to o era in strongly represent to the government through the .Education Board the injustice to the children attending the Haiti School in having ti put up with die insanitary conditions existing as a result ot too fadtire of the Education authentic.-,’ ° act upon the recommendations the local bodies to connect the school with the Gisborne Borough drainage, and again urges the Board to Provide the convenience so urgently required at the earliest possible moment, This meeting is of opinion that the libera! assistance offcml by the local bodies is evidence of their appreciation of the urgency ot the work and should he taken advantage of before the offers are withdraw 11. Some discussion ensued on the question of enlarging the school area, anil on the motion of th e Chairman supported by Air Watson. the following resolution was passed:-—"That this meetino- of householders in the Gisborne district regrets that nothing definite has yet been done in regard to extension of the school site. It has been acknowledged by the Minister of Education and- by the Education Board and its officials that the building area is much too small, and ver the proposal to enlarge the land has not vet been given effect to. the district *is rapidly becoming more populous and the land is enhancing in value, and further delay is likely to result in considerably! ancreased cost.” The following resolutions were also carried: —- ‘‘That this mooting of householders urges upon the Government—(l) The extension of the school age and reduction of the size of classes; and' (2) The securing of more trained teachers, and to this end the paying of much better salaries.” The following were declared elected as the committee for tub ensuing year:—Messrs G. Crawshnw. E. Boatkon, AV. R. Clarkson, H. F. Forster, AA'. L. Butler. C. K. Bickford,. R. Robson. AA T . Niven, and G. E. Ashton. Mr Crawshnw was appointed chairman of the new committee, and Air Bickford secretary and treasurer. Air Watson proposed a vote of thanks to the teaching staff. Mr Ashton, in seconding the motion, made eulogistic reference to the splendid services of Air McLeod and his staff. The vote of thanks was carried unanimously.

TF HAP AT? A. At the meeting at J o Hapara, Mr G. K. Pasley presided. 'Flie annual report and, balance sheet were- read and adopted. The chairman mentioned that the price of school books was at present the subject of some discontent among parents. The headmaster. Mr D. H. Fa ram, said that economy in this direction was practised as extensively as possible, and slates were largely used . Messrs C. Carmichael, E. Fredericks, A. A. Hepburn, H. Hopkinson, Leo. Marshall, G. K. Pasley, W. A. .Priestley, J. A. Scents, and T. Wilson were elected the committee for the ensuing year. The chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr D. H. Faram and staff for the capable and efficient manner in which the school had been conducted during the past year. The motion was carried by acclamation. Mr Faram briefly returned thanks.

Mr Fredericks moved a vote of thanks to Mr Pasley for his successful efforts in acquiring an additional section adjacent to the school. Mr Hepburn seconded the motion, which was earned. At a subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr G. Tv. Pasley was reelected chairman; Mr Wilson was reelected secretary; and Messrs Marshall, Scents and Hepburn were appointed: a, visiting committee for the month.

MANGAPAPA. At the annual meeting Mr W. J. MoCliskie presided over an attendance of about twenty. The report and balance sneet were adopted. On the motion of Mr H. J. Clayton, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Cole, the headmaster, and his staff, for the good work done during the year.

Air Cole suitably replied. j A vote of thanks was accorded the j retiring members of the committee. The following were declared elect- | cd: as the committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs W. J. AlcGiisikio, E. 8. Goldsmith, H. J. Clayton, J. A. Hcyvorth, H. Holmes, J. Renwic-k, AV."'Young, R. Morrison, and AC L. Ensor. . i Air AY. J. TOLOGA BAY. The annual report of the Tologa Bay school committee was presented at a meeting of householders held in the schoolhouse last evening. Air. Guthrie presided. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The following committee was elected:—Airs Ai. ATaddock, and Messrs. J. E. Lindon, H. G. Davison, P. AV. Holmes, J. AV. Somervell, G. AI. Colebrook, and R. H. Giles. At a subsequent meeting- of tho committee. Air Somervell was appointed chairman and Air P. AV. Holmes

secretary. ORMOND. There was a fair attendance at the meeting of householders at Ormond last evening. Air. A. Parsons presided. The report and balance-sheet for the past twelve months were read and considered satisfactory.

The following new committee was electee,!:—Messrs. A. Parsons, J. Thompson, Ai. Benson, J. Allen, J. Divine, J. Farrow and R. Statham. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Air. A. Parsons was appointed chairman and Air. J. Thompson secretary.

PATUTAHI. There was a representative: attendance at the meeting at Patutahi. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The headmaster and staff were heartily congratulated on them conduct of the school: — The following were elected the committee for the ensuing year:—Alessrs J C. Hardy, T. Brosnahan, J. J. East, A. Doherty, E. Lange, H. Nieol and E. Knight. At a subsequent meeting Air Hardy was elected chairman. Air A. Doherty ■secretary, and Air East treasurer.
