Mr G. ITogben. aged 6fi, ex-Direetor of Education, died at Wellington yesterday. ITe had been ill for seme time. —1 ’ress A ssociation.
Mrs Hawkes, 11 Cheeseman Road, Kaiti. has received word that Rifleman E. V. Hawkes is returning on the lonic.
The death has occurred of Mr Leonard Stowe, late clerk of Parliament. He retired last year, after 54 years’ Parliamentary services, states a Press Association telegram from Wellington.
A Wellington telegram announces the death of Dr Kingston Fytfe, following an operation for gall-stones. He had been wounded twice m the war. He took great, interest in music. He was for twenty years organist at St. Peter’s Church.
Constables Campbell and Morris (Gisborne), and Leckie (Te Karaka) are at present in Auckland, being the representatives chosen from this district on the Prince of Wales’ escort throughout New Zealand. Constable Sleetli (Tokomaru) will join tlie escort at Napier. Mr R. D. Dymock (Waikohu representative) who is not seeking re-election to the Harbor Board, was yesterday accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of Mr F. J. Lysnar, chairman of the Harbor Board," in recognition of his services as a member of the Boat’d.
Mr Percy Burton, a popular member of the Albion Hotel staff, was yesterday met by the staff and a number of friends and made the recipient of a presentation as a mark of esteem in connection with his approaching marriage. The presentation was made by Mr F. G. Allen, who referred appreciatively to Mr Burton’s services.
