Mr W. F. Hatton has been advised that his son, Sergt. T. S. Hatton, is returning by the Rinrataka, which is due about December 27.
Mr A. G, Henderson, who has been acting manager of the Lyttelton Times Company, Christchurch, during the past six months, has been appointed manager of the company. Mr Robert Bell retains the office of managing director. —Press Association.
The death is announced in a cable message from London of Field-Marshal Sir Evelyn Wood, at the age of eightyone .years. He first entered the Navy in 1852, and served in the Crimea, where he was severely wounded, in 1855. In the same year he joined the 13th Light Dragoons, and saw service in almost every campaign until the Nile Expedition in 1895, when he was appointed to Home commands. He also wrote several books, of which probably the best-known is ‘'“'From Midshipman to Field-Marshal.” v
