The" Electrical and Tramway Committee reported that a meeting had been held to consider the managei s report on the running of the trams during Show week. A further report was put in by Mr Buswell asking to be relieved of the tramways, owing to overwork, and after consideration, the matter was deferred, the Mayor, Engineer and Mr Buswell being requested to submit a full report on the subject. The committee reported that a letter from Mr Murray, engineer in charge of the pdwer house was considered, when it was agreed to recommend the Council to allow Mr Murray six months' leave of absence without pay, to take a long sea voyage to improve his health, which is just now not too good. Mr Murray has worked for the Council for the past eight years, and during that time has put in a lot of overtime, especially during the past five years, when the plant was overloaded and the staff short-handed, whilst for the last five years he has only been able to take two of the statutory holidays. The committee therefore suggest that the Council make a grant to Mr Murray of £7O for lost holiday time and for extra services rendered during such period. During the absence of Mr Murray, Mr Badham is to carry out the duties of engineer in charge at a salary of £5 10s weekly.— The report was adopted.
