The increased production will yield the same return of 15.6 per cent, to the State. On £5,000,000 this is £780,000; on £10,000,000 it would be £1,560,000, and on the American estimates a much higher sum.. Q.—WILL PROHIBITION CAUSE ANY REDUCTION IN STATE EXPENDITURE? Answer.—Yes. Present expenditure on Police, Gaols, Law Courts, Hospitals, Charitafelo Aid. Oldage Pensions, etc., is £1,474,000. Experts estimate that -at least 55 per cent., or £BIO,OOO, is caused by drink. This will he saved under Prohibition.
