One hundred of the huts provided by tho Church Army in England have been lost to the enemy, leaving about eight hundred for the use of our troops. Up to August 30th, 1918, 27 huts ’ have been subscribed for in New Zealand, and are taking the' place of some of the lost ones at the front. Our huts are open to all, irrespective of creed or nationality. Subscribers in the Dominion also provide for the upkeep of hospitals, parcels to prisoners of war, Institutes in New _ Zealand, camps and ’.Rotorua. Chaplains at home and at the front. In fact the soldiers of the Empire are helped in every possible way by the Military Affairs Committee and Church Army. Our Huts bear the names of the district or Patriotic Society or Club giving them as shown under, andeach costs £5 weekly to maintain. 1

Since the above was published on October 1, the following account has 5 been sent by the Bishop of Auckland:—“The" result of our special effort to replace the lost 100 Church Army Huts shows that up to September 21st we have raised money for 11 C.A. Huts at £SOO each, and also a fair amount of money for the upkeep of the same. AVo hope to have the twelfth ready soon. After that I think we have dene our hit towards replacing the lost lints.” AA 7 ord has also come from the Horn Local Secretary of the Church Army in Southland that a continued effort is being made for the Red Cross, Mercantile Marine, and Church Army, and the Church Army is guaranteed £SOOO ©f the amount raised, for its war work.
