PRICE OF BREAD.
.. BOARD OF TRADE AND- BOR- ' OUGH COUNCIL. The Hon . W. D. S. MacDonald wrote to the- Borough Council last evening stating that the member of the Board of Trade who recently visited Gisborne in connection with the price of bread desired to examine the accounts of master-bakers and to take expert evidence only in connection with the cost of the manufacture of bread. Had the member been aware that the 'Council wished to see him on the matter arrangements would have been made accordingly. The Board would, in future, when visiting Gisborne, comply with the Council’s request and notify them of any sittings to be held in Gisborne. Cr Mount said that any agreement with the master bakers should: be on a graduated scale. The only complaint he had to make about the cost of bread at the present time was in the delivery. Three bakers oarts could be seen delivering bread in one street at one tune. He moved that the Board of Trade be informed that the price should be fixed as he had stated. . Cr Wildish seconded and Cr Munn„ supported the motion. Cr Tucker was against the motion and said he thought the Government had a good grip of the situation. Cr Miller said he did. not see the force of Cr Mouat’s motion m view of the fact that they were to be. notified when the" member of the Board of Trade visited Gisborne again. The motion was lost and it was decided to thank Mr MacDonald for his letter. ’ .
