LAND FOR SOLDIERS.
GOVERNMENT’S LATEST PURCHASES. . Press Association Telegram. WELLINGTON, June 18. A number of purchases of land suitable for occupation by returned soldiers in small holdings were approved by Cabinet to-day. Explaining what was being done, Mr Guthrie said provision had been, made for the returned soldier wanting goocteland for dairying. The Government had received several offers of such land in suitable localities where there was every chance of settlers making good. Several of these properties had already been purchased and returned soldiers were waiting to take* them up. The prices paid were such that the Land Purchase Board was convinced that soldiers going on the land had the very best prospects of success. A number of farms had been purchased from men going to the front, so men returned from the war would be taking the places of men going on service.
