Press Association Telegram. AUCKLAND, March 11. Sir James Allen states that men returning on furlough without pay who have applied for extended leave will be granted three weeks’ pay. Private advice received from Wellington indicates that the vessel wrecked on the East Coast carried benzine consigned to Bannatyne and Co., Wellington. Colonel Paterson has resumed command of the Auckland Military District, the arrangement for him temporarily relieving Colonel Logan at Samoa having been cancelled, owing to Colonel Logan, who is on furlough, having desired for personal reasons to return there. The Hon. Mr Russell informed a Navy League deputation that lie proposed to give the Auckland branch not only power to collect funds, hut to distribute them ,to assist men of the navy in many parts of the world. It has been suggested that as far as possible the Internal Affairs Department should ho used for distributing funds. . m Press Association Tc.egram. WELLINGTON. March 11. The steamer Rosamond, regarding which anxiety was felt- locally, reached Wellington about 6 p.m. on Saturday after a week’s voyage from Auckland. She had a very rough trip. ■ No serious damage was sustained. . .. The Prime Minister lias received the following cable message from tho Prime Minister of Canada, acknowledging the New Zealand gift of £l6 000 for the relief of sufferers by the Halifax disaster The Government of Canada is deeply grateful for the very substantial gift made by the Government of New Zealand for the relief of Halifax. This splendid expression of sympathy will be warmly appreciated by the people, both ? irt Halifax and the whole Dominion. ’
