ARMING AMERICAN SHIPS.
AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. WASHINGTON. March 12. The State Department has notified foreign diplomats that armed guards will henceforth be placed on all American ships sailing through the danger zone and American Naval gunnels will be provided on both passenger and munition ships. Tho State Department makes a completo change of front regarding the status of merchantmen, now bolding that they do not become warships in any sense, though - armed.
